NC Child is currently focused on the following advocacy efforts:

Protecting Children’s Health–NC Child is focused on protecting decades of progress in children’s health insurance coverage. Congress and President-elect Trump have promised major changes to the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which would jeopardize access to health care for North Carolina’s children and families.

Building Economic Opportunity–The future of North Carolina is as strong as its people. That’s why we’re at our best when all children to grow up in financially secure families and communities where they have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Children living in financially secure families and communities are more likely to succeed in school, stay healthy, and achieve economic success as adults.

Raising the Age of Juvenile Jurisdiction–NC Child is committed to ensuring the safety of our communities while fostering positive youth development, so that the youth of today can become the healthy, productive adults of tomorrow. North Carolina is one of only two states that charge all 16- and 17-year-olds as adults regardless of the severity of the crime. Research and data make it clear that our juvenile justice system is the right place to serve youth.

NC Pathways to Grade-Level Reading–Our vision is bold – all North Carolina children, regardless of race, ethnicity or socioeconomic status, are reading on grade-level by the end of third grade, so that they have the greatest opportunity for life success. Achieving it will take long-term commitment.
