October is National Youth Justice Awareness Month

October 2013

During the month of October Action for Children will join thousands of advocates across the country in celebrating National Youth Justice Month (Y-JAM). Y-JAM raises awareness about the consequences of prosecuting youth in the adult system, and brings communities together to advocate for reform.

We are already well aware of what works–and what is ineffective or even harmful–when it comes to youth justice. Now is the time to translate that knowledge into meaningful action to improve the justice system, and offer youth the opportunity to get back on track after they have made a mistake.

Join us each week in October as we explore a new aspect of youth justice in North Carolina with a few fellow advocates as guest bloggers. You can help spread the word about Y-JAM in three easy steps:

  1. Learn more about the history of Youth Justice Month.
  2. Share information with your friends. Don’t forget to use the hashtags #YJAM and #YouthJustice!
  3. Sign our petition to raise the age of juvenile court jurisdiction in North Carolina.
