The bond between grandparents and their grandchildren is a special one. Grandparents are among children’s first teachers, playmates and friends.

Sunday, September 9th is Grandparents Day. Action for Children has put together a list of five tips to help you be a GRAND advocate for children in North Carolina:

  • Stay informed. People in your community look to you for wisdom. Get informed about the issues impacting children in North Carolina, and know where to go for reliable information. Action for Children has a number of easy-to-understand resources available on our website, www.ncchild.org.
  • Get connected. Make a lasting impact; consider volunteering your time and talent at a child-serving organization. Local nonprofits need your skills and experience. Contact Action for Children to learn about volunteer opportunities with our organization, or to get connected to one of our partners in your local community.
  • Recruit your peers. Did you know users age 50 and over are the fastest growing demographic on social media? If you’re already using Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest to keep in touch with family and friends, why not use them to help inform your loved ones about key issues affecting children in our state? Need ideas? Visit Action for Children’s social profiles for content that you can share and retweet to your network.
  • Vote for children. Children are one-quarter of North Carolina’s population and 100% of our state’s future. Supports like high-quality early learning opportunities, preventive health and public education help give your grandchildren a healthy start in life and prepare North Carolina to compete—and win—in the global economy. Help elect leaders who will put your grandchildren first.  Not sure where to start? Read Who’s for Kids and Who’s Just Kidding for helpful questions to ask candidates about their positions on children’s issues.
  • Help fuel change.  Action for Children works to ensure all children in North Carolina are healthy, safe, well-educated and have every opportunity for success. Our work is made possible by the generous support of individuals like you.  Consider making a tax-deductible donation of $10, $20, $50 or more to help Action for Children advance our mission.
