Former Supreme Court Justice, Police Chief Support Bipartisan Effort to Raise the Age
Representative Marilyn Avila (R-Wake), a primary sponsor of HB 632: Juvenile Age to 18 called a press conference at the legislature to urge House and Senate leaders to hear and pass this crucial bill. The bipartisan HB 632 would raise the age of juvenile court jurisdiction from 16 to 18 for those youth accused of minor crimes. It would make our communities safer and keep our kids on track to becoming responsible and productive citizens. Speakers at the press conference included:
- Former Supreme Court Justice Robert Orr
- Retired New Bern Police Chief Frank Palombo, a former president of the N.C. Association of Chiefs of Police
- Representative Marilyn Avila (R-Wake), a primary sponsor of the House bill
- Senator Floyd McKissick (D-Durham), a primary sponsor of the bill in the Senate (SB 506)
