Short-Term Suspensions; Long-Term Consequences; Real-Life Solutions - February 2007

Short-term Suspensions; Long-term Consequences; Real Life Solutions analyzes three years of school district level data by race and gender while offering concrete solutions for reducing short-term suspensions and thus reducing the likelihood of students dropping out of school.

In a special section called “North Carolina Success Stories,” the report features concrete steps school districts can take to reduce suspensions, such as using data to drive decisions and accountability, altering class change schedules, implementing Positive Behavioral Supports, creating Ninth Grade Academies, drawing on community supports, linking troubled students with physical and mental health services and other options.
