Action for Children North Carolina honored Julius L. Chambers
on June 2, 2009 with the fourth annual North Carolina Children's
Lifetime Legacy Award. Mr. Chambers is a historic national figure whose
landmark civil rights legal work helped provide equal access for the
nation's children and young people. Mr. Chambers' work includes Swann
v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education, desegregating public
schools.
For more than 45 years, Julius Chambers has been one of the nation's
leading civil rights attorneys and a champion for education. He was
integral in helping desegregate public schools and, as head of the
NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Mr. Chambers helped shape civil rights laws
in America. He also has profoundly impacted higher education as
chancellor at his alma mater, North Carolina Central University, and as
a professor of law.
Action for Children North Carolina would like to thank all our
sponsors and guests for making the 2009 Children's Lifetime Legacy
Award event a resounding success!
