2007 Leadership Triangle Goodmon Award

On December 10, 2007, Action for Children North Carolina was awarded
the 2007 “Organization” Leadership Triangle Goodmon Award at the sixth
annual gala presentation, held at the American Tobacco District in
downtown
Durham.
“Action for Children is an organization devoted to making North
Carolina the best state in which to
be and raise a child,” said Debra Morgan, WRAL-TV Anchor and presenter
of the awards. “This award is given to Action for Children for its
dedication to improving the quality of life for the next generation of
North Carolina’s leaders and thinkers.”
“It is an honor to be recognized among the Triangle’s leading
individuals and organizations,” said Barbara Bradley, President and CEO
of Action for Children. “The theme of the evening — family values —
exemplified our organization’s realization that it will, indeed, take
all of us working together to improve the lives of all children in
North Carolina.”
Recognized was Action for Children’s most significant achievement in
regional leadership: the convening of child health insurance experts in
2006 to craft a proposal to expand children’s health insurance to cover
thousands more children and youth in the state. The result was a
concrete, nonpartisan and affordable plan that provides access to
health insurance to all children in
North Carolina, regardless of income level or eligibility requirements.
“The success of the expanded health insurance legislation is just
one example of Action for Children’s leadership in improving outcomes
for children, youth and families,” said Morgan. “For nearly 25 years,
Action for Children has been instrumental in many public policy
successes benefiting and protecting children.”
“Action for Children works with nonprofits, businesses and local and
state governments to develop policies and programs that benefit every
child in
North Carolina,” she continued.
“The organization’s attention and dedication to its mission has created
a statewide community in which our children and youth can grow up
healthier, safer and better educated, with every opportunity for
success.”
The Goodmon Awards were established by James F. Goodmon, owner of
Capitol Broadcasting Company, to recognize outstanding,
regionally-minded individual leaders, organizations, partnerships and
elected officials who exemplify regional thinking and action through
their professional and/or volunteer efforts.
“I’m pleased with the outstanding quality of this year’s
candidates,” Goodmon said.“The winners are indeed exemplary leaders in
their communities and our region.”
The awards are presented annually by Leadership Triangle, a
