Infant and Child Deaths Print E-mail

New Data on Infant and Child Deaths

Data on child deaths in North Carolina is available from the N.C. Child Fatality Task Force.  The 2008 data, gathered by the State Center for Health Statistics and the Child Fatality Staff in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, show a 5 percent decrease in child deaths between 2007 and 2008, the lowest child death rates ever recorded. Child deaths have decreased 18 percent over the last decade and a remarkable 33 percent since the inception of the Child Fatality Task Force in 1991.

The purpose of the North Carolina Child Health Report Card is to heighten awareness of the health of children and youth across our state.  Leading health indicators on access to care and preventive health, health risk behaviors and death and injury are summarized in this one easy-to-read document.

2006 Children's Index - May 2006

The 2006 North Carolina Children's Index includes more than 75 indicators of child and youth well-being in the following areas: child health and safety, economic (in)security, early care and education, child maltreatment, juvenile justice and demographics. The 2006 Index also includes a special section highlighting how the children and youth of North Carolina are developing in positive ways.

KIDS COUNT Data Center Print E-mail

KIDS COUNT Data Center, a project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, is a national and state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the U.S.  This system contains state- and county-level data for more than 100 measures of child well-being, including information on children in immigrant families, education, employment and income, health, health insurance, population and family characteristics, poverty and youth risk factors.  This easy-to-use, powerful online database allows you to generate custom reports for a geographic area (Profiles) or to compare geographic areas on a topic (Ranking, Maps, and Line Graphs).
